Tax Credit & Donations

Support students while getting a dollar-for-dollar tax credit

It's Not a Donation—It's a Redirect!

Arizona's tax credit program lets you direct your state tax dollars to a Leona Group School instead of the state's general fund. It costs you nothing extra, but makes a huge difference for students.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this really free to me?

Yes! The tax credit is a dollar-for-dollar reduction in your Arizona state tax liability. If you owe $2,000 in state taxes and make a $2,000 contribution, your tax liability becomes $0. You're simply redirecting money that would go to the state general fund to a school of your choice.

Do I have to have a child at the school?

No! Anyone who pays Arizona state taxes can contribute to any public school, regardless of whether they have children or where their children attend school.

Can I specify how my contribution is used?

You can recommend that your contribution be used for a specific program or activity (like athletics or the arts), but final allocation decisions are made by the school to ensure funds are used where they're needed most.

What if I don't owe that much in taxes?

You can only receive a credit up to the amount of your state tax liability. If you owe less than the maximum credit amount, you can still contribute up to the maximum—but your credit will be limited to what you owe. Any excess is considered a donation.

Can I contribute to multiple schools?

Yes! You can split your contribution among multiple schools as long as your total contribution doesn't exceed the maximum credit amount.

Is this the same as the private school tax credit?

No. This is the PUBLIC school tax credit, which is separate from and in addition to the private school tuition organization (STO) tax credit. You can take advantage of both!

Do I need to itemize deductions?

No! Arizona's public school tax credit does not require you to itemize deductions. You can take the standard deduction and still claim the credit.
